英文思维确实挺有意思，很多短语，单从字面意思理解会让人“丈二和尚摸不到头脑”，比如下边这几个跟“服饰”相关的英语短语，你知道是什么意思吗？
1. Below the belt
腰带之下？什么意思？其实这个短语源于拳击运动，拳击中打击对手腰带以下的部位是违规的，现在也用来指“不公正的、有失公平的、卑劣的行为”。
That was distinctly below the belt!
这明显太不公平了！
这个词组经常还经常跟在动词“hit”之后，hit below the belt指用卑劣的手段攻击别人。

一些评论是暗箭伤人。
2. Cap in hand
字面意思是手里拿着帽子，实际意思却是：早期西方国家的普通人，遇到地位较高的贵族等有权势的人，会脱帽致敬。
所以现代cap in hand是指脱帽放在手上，表示一个人卑躬屈膝、毕恭毕敬的姿态，尤其是有求于人（特别是要钱）的时候。
There’s no way he’ll go cap in hand to his brother.
让他跟自己兄弟卑躬屈膝地要钱绝不可能。
Don't go hat in hand.
不要卑躬屈膝去求人。
3. As tough as old boots
说人像旧靴子一样坚硬，其实是要表示这个人身体很强健，或者指这个人意志很坚强，不怕任何困难。
She’s almost 90 but she’s still as tough as old boots.
她快90了，但是身体依旧硬朗。
She is as tough as old boots.
她意志很坚强。
4. Take off the gloves
可不是脱下手套那么简单的意思，很多正式场合，戴着手套是斯文有礼的表现，要是摘下来的话，可能就预示要对人不客气了。
The candidates have taken off the gloves and started to make personal attacks against each other.
候选人们已经撸胳膊挽袖子，开始互相攻击了。
The Chinese should take off the gloves and deal with American economic aggression.
中国人应该采取行动，以应对美国的经济侵略。
5. Your knickers in a twist
这个短语并不是要你把内裤拧在一起，其实是指某人因为鸡毛蒜皮的事情而恼怒，唧唧歪歪地抱怨，指因为小事儿而不高兴。
Don't get your knickers in a twist: I'll be ready in a minute!
别因为这点儿事儿就生气，我马上就好！
